Aquatic Risk Management has made significant progress in the last 30 years, resulting in safer swimming pools and healthier patrons. However, we must continue to make positive strides in pool water chemistry and filtration methods. We must focus on education and certification to achieve this, especially for facility support staff.
Although various pool operator courses are available, such as CPO, AFO, AquaTech, and YMCA, these courses are unsuitable for individuals new to the aquatic industry. The language and complicated formulas in these courses can be intimidating for support staff. It's like trying to take a Calculus math class without first taking Algebra. We aim to encourage people to consider a career in the aquatic industry rather than discouraging them. It educates support staff on the primary things essential for safe pool water chemistry and operations. It is important to note that this course is not a substitute for certification as a pool operator. The content is intended to educate those who assist certified pool operators with daily water testing and pool operations. The Intro Course has the following objectives:
1. Educate supporting staff at the pool about water chemistry.
2. Provide backup for certified pool operators when they are not on-site.
3. Identify pool issues as soon as they occur.
4. Encourage the support staff to become fully certified pool operators someday.
5. Make the aquatic support staff highly competent, thus creating a safer environment for all pool users.
6. Help to keep insurance premiums as reasonable as possible and increase the viability of the facility's safety plan.
The Introduction to Pool Operations is available online, and a certificate is awarded after completing the short course and 15-question exam. To pass, you must score at least 80%. You can retake the exam if needed. This course is an essential entry-level tool, so log on to our website for more information.
